Coleman County Fire Fighters Association, Inc.

The Coleman County Fire Fighters Association was created to bring together the 10 fire departments in Coleman County.

The CCFFA is made up of:

  • Burkett Volunteer Fire Department
  • Coleman Fire Department
  • Glen Cove Volunteer Fire Department
  • Lake Coleman Volunteer Fire Department
  • Novice Volunteer Fire Department
  • Santa Anna Volunteer Fire Department
  • South Coleman County Volunteer Fire Department
  • Talpa Volunteer Fire Department
  • Valera Volunteer Fire Department

The Association was started in 1992 after a need for coordination and effective planning between the counties two fire departments was identified. The member departments agreed to be represented by either the department Fire Chief or an Assistant Chief at quarterly meeting. Among the first items of business were to establish response areas and to set a common radio communications system plan.

Today, the CCFFA has grown to ten member departments with Glen Cove VFD being the latest edition in 2010. Goals of the Association have evolved to include area wide training, formalizing mutual aid agreements, formally setting response districts, and to take an active roll in emergency planning for Coleman County.

RADIOS:

The CCFFA owns two radio frequencies (Countywide 1& Countywide 2) for emergency response communications in Coleman County. These two frequencies operate off a tower site on Santa Anna Mountain at 100 watts and offers a reliable means of communications for the entire county..

RESPONSE:

Through the CCFFA, area departments have also started to provide regional responses. When requested, the area fire departments can respond with a hastily put together wildland strike team, usually within about 15 minutes. Depending on the location of the requesting emergency, and currenty emergency operations in Coleman Co., member fire departments will send a unit to make up the strike team, which operates as a cohesive unit at out of county responses. When deployed, the call sign "Coleman Strike Team 1" is used.

SERVICE:

The Association also own and run an emergency service truck. This truck is capible of responding to any emergency scene in Coleman County and providing vital support functions. It carries replacement tires for the area fire apparatus, tools, spare fuel, radios, food, and drinking water. This unit offers our departments the opportunity to run emergencies with less expense, decreased down times, and with shorter logisitcal lines. This truck also makes up one peice of area wildland task forces.
